2011 Abrams Genealogy Seminar

Thank you to all who attended the 2011 Abrams Genealogy Seminar on Saturday, July 16 at the Michigan Historical Center and made it a success.

Additional appreciation goes to the speakers, volunteers, the Abrams Foundation, the Michigan Historical Foundation, the Archives of Michigan and their staff who worked tirelessly to make this year's seminar a reality.

The Abrams Foundation, The Archives of Michigan,
& The Michigan Genealogical Council
are pleased to present:

David E. Renccher

David Rencher, CGO
FamilySearch.org
Saturday, July 16, 2011
9 a.m. — 5 p.m.
Michigan Historical Center
Lansing, Michigan

Mr. Rencher is a 28-year veteran and Chief Genealogical Officer (CGO) of FamilySearch and a popular leader in the genealogical and archival circles.  He has held leadership positions with several national organizations, is a professional genealogist, and is in great demand as a keynote speaker.

Mr. Rencher will speak regarding the Effective Use of the Family History Library Catalog (FHLC).  The FHLC is huge and Mr. Rencher will show us it’s hidden secrets as well as effective tools to make our searches in the catalog more productive.

Then Mr. Rencher will speak on Sources and Methods for British Isles Genealogical Research.  Tools we use to find records in the United States are not as productive when researching records from the British Isles.  Mr. Rencher will provide us with the tools we will need to search for records from across the pond.

In the afternoon, conference attendees will have the opportunity to pick from a variety of speakers/topics.  The topics include:

  • Interpreting Vital Records in Latin, Polish and Czech
  • How to Start Your Genealogical Research
  • How My Michigan Ancestors Have Made Me A Better Genealogist
  • The 1st Michigan Colored Troops in the Civil War (102nd U.S.C.T.)
  • Sibling Connections
  • Land Record Research In Michigan
  • and ending with a Tour of the Archives of Michigan.

The Archives of Michigan will be open for research from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The cost for the seminar is $45 after July 6 and includes lunchLunch is available to registrants prior to July 13.  For registrants after July 13 and walk in registrations, lunch will only be available if there are any remaining.
