SUMMARY:AI use for Societies with Steve Little
DESCRIPTION:Discover how Artificial Intelligence can streamline the management of your genealogical society. This session covers practical tools for generating social media content\, creating automatic meeting transcripts\, and drafting member communications. Learn how to save time and increase engagement through smart technology. \nBIO Steve Little is the AI Program Director for the National Genealogical Society\, the founder of AI Genealogy Insights\, and a co-host of The Family History AI Show podcast\, and he has lifelong passions for language\, technology\, and genealogy. Steve completed graduate-level courses in applied linguistics\, specializing in natural language processing and computational linguistics\, two pillars of today’s large language models of AI; his first career was spent in and around libraries (law\, local\, university\, and state archives) building information systems. Steve traces his deep roots to one Appalachian county\, where\, by 1820\, all 32 of his 3rd-great-grandparents had settled—many even earlier than that. In fact\, 60 of his most recent ancestors were born\, lived\, and died there\, in Ashe County\, North Carolina. His passion lies in AI & genetic genealogy: with a keen interest in endogamy\, pedigree collapse\, deciphering multiple relationships\, and an insatiable curiosity to explore beneficial uses and current limits of artificial intelligence in genealogy. Beyond genealogy\, Steve wears many hats: he’s a husband and a dad\, a Methodist pastor\, and a Virginian. His hobbies span from bird watching and sky gazing\, to chess and film. \nAdditionally\, he’s an avid reader\, writer\, photographer\, and regex script hacker (a geeky name for sophisticated find- and-replace searches).

SUMMARY:Michigan Genealogical CouncilPre Seminar HELP SESSIONS
DESCRIPTION:Scattered throughout the Library and Archives building (the Michigan Library and Historical Center) in Lansing\, the MGC board members and other experts are offering “Help Sessions” at tables about specific topics.  Scheduled in the interval between the Delegate Meeting (ends about 12 noon) and the Lock In (at 6 p.m.)\, these tables will have experts in specific topics from 2-4 p.m.:  Pioneer Certificate Program\, Beginners\, French-Canadian\, Indigenous\, MGC databases\, Germany\, Church and Cemetery Records\, DAR/SAR research\, Irish\, House Histories\, and African-American research.  The Library of Michigan and the Archives of Michigan are hosting tables to guide researchers through their collections and help them get started using the building’s resources. \nFor these sessions\, participants will sit around a table with the expert.  Bring your laptop or papers and be prepared with a short\, direct question.  Discussion around the table could provide multiple sources of potential help\, as well as identify resources available in the building that could be checked during the Lock In or immediately in the afternoon.  These help sessions around the table are not meant to be lengthy discussions about one family or ancestor\, but rather to provide quick “next steps” to help a researcher.  Listening in to the discussion of what others are looking for can perhaps help with learning about the resources and ways to think about the research and resources.
